OCTOBER SCC MEETING MINUTES
October 3rd, 2024 - 3:45 p.m.

- Recent teacher professional development in Salt Lake
- Great success and helping teachers work with their students
- New Chromebooks for 3rd grade
- Mrs. Treasure says they're working well
- Budget will be adjusted to include the professional development conference and new Chromebooks
- Additional budget item - full-time school counselor (half-time paid by CCSD)
- Only 10% of the annual budget is eligible for carry-over, so we try to spend it all
- Website Follow-Up (Daneal):
- We are in compliance with website rules.
- One past meeting was inaccurately labeled as cancelled; need to fix.
- Ensure we update whenever the next meeting is at least a week prior to the meeting time.

- The statement, "We will provide training for those serving on the councils."
- Clause for appointing a new SCC member if a current member is consistently missing meetings.

- The Chair may be an employee or a parent.
- The Principal cannot be a Chair or Vice Chair
- Recommended Item Additions:
- "The Council will provide a calendar for what we will cover in our meetings over this year with a recommended schedule."

- Primary Goal: 65% of students will grow in math and reading
- Measuring growth is better for students and teachers to encourage getting closer to benchmark
- Pay attention to funding page and the goals we have set for the teachers

- Dad works for Sheriff's Office and does a lot for school safety
- What we are doing here:
- Safety posts covered by aides
- Teachers are in classrooms when students arrive
- Bus duty at the front
- Ensure bus area is blocked off
- Aides on playground, by parent drop-off, and monitoring where students are
- Standard response protocols are found on the back of all teacher name tags + DIR-S App that alerts all teachers to what protocols are needed moment-to-moment

- TSSA budget goes toward safety supplies for teachers

- District is working on identifying what is going to be stocked in all buckets and backpacks district-wide
- Always working on improving and taking notes on what we can do better
- District is working on a grant to get more funding
- Working on adding reflective coating to all windows to make it harder to break into windows
- Currently on all entrance windows and doors
- Increase situational awareness and communication
- New law passed
- All high schools and middle schools must have a full-time resource officer
- Our elementary schools have two resource officers that rotate between the south side and the north side
- Deputy Merrill and Deputy Price are the officers that rotate in our schools
- They are great at working with our kids and the community.
- They are very involved.

- This will be addressed in January or February
- Positive Behavior Plan will be addressed at next meeting

- Make sure paras are getting paid out of the right budget-Audrey
- Meeting with spencer Jensen to talk about new tech specialist-and also they’ll make sure all of the tech in our school is up to date
- Audrey will likely put in a bit order for new tech
- School counselor money doesn’t show BUT she will be paid monthly it’s just no longer in account with the budget
- Teachers are going to be possibly observing other teachers in the school teach
- That would help teachers feel like they’re all teaching the same best practices

- Movie reviews, book reviews-curriculum for digital citizenship teaching
- Teach age specific lessons
- 6 lessons/year-about 1/month
- Media balance, digital footprint, privacy, communication, cyberbullying, news and identifying fake news, AI, etc.

- We need to teach digital citizenship every year-
- 3 Tiers
- Tier I-all kids; Safe, Kind and Responsible
- Tour through the school to various areas where expectations are different
- Signs to help students remember the different rules
- Re-boot camp: Lincoln Leaders will video some skits to help refresh on the expectations in those areas
- By following the rules, they get to earn a Lincoln Leopard card-enter into drawing to win a prize
- Tier II- Kids that struggle; Gen ED kids that need extra connection and support
- Give students a check in mentor-specialists other teachers that interact daily with students
- Tracker to show progress-they get to earn a reward for good behavior in the areas they are struggling
- More one on one help with being Safe, Kind, and Responsible
- Parents get a colored flyer to explain how it works-parents receive a paper for them to sign to see how they did during the day
- Tier III- Frequent visiting office, fights, leaving class without permission, accepting feedback struggles, etc.
- Asking teachers for feedback on what their grade is struggling with
- Small group “academies” to talk about the behavior struggles in a kind way; getting to a deeper reason that they’re struggling with it
- It will be a slow moving discussion and lessons-slower turnover for corrected behaviors
- Audrey explained how to get a student a behavior aide for a student or a Behavior Plan under an IEP
- Deseree asked-Do you (Audrey) advise parents that they can request a behavior plan?
- NO-most kids don’t qualify. Parents can request it-but it’s not worth their time-without having any proper data to show if they qualify or not.
- Deseree question: What have you heard about disbanding Department of Ed at a Federal Level
- State of Utah hasn’t said anything about that
- Tier I-all kids; Safe, Kind and Responsible
- Next year will be the LAST year for 6th grade in Lincoln
- School choice works by the school determining if they have openings based off their capacity-new website to make it more
- Cameras are motion sensored to record; hoping to upgrade the ones that are glitchy

- For proficiency-our students perform better than the state, but not as well as the entire district
- Growth-we are showing a good steady increase
- Attendance is still an issue-27% of students at our school are chronically absent
- We are one of the highest percentages of ELLs in the district, probable correlation

- We spent time talking about funding we get from the state for education and how it compares to the rest of the USA
